Google+ Social Network Shutting Down April 2, 2019

Originally created as a competitor to Facebook, Google has decided to discontinue its Google Plus social network due to a lack of consumer engagement, and the existence of a critical security bug that could allow personal data to be exposed to third party app developers.

On April 2, 2019 all Google+ content will be removed from access and deleted, so if you are a Google+ user and you wish to retain your information you will need to perform the following:

  1. Go to Google’s Download your data page.  Sign into your Google account if you’re not already.  If you have a Google+ account, all Google+ options will be preselected for you.
  2. Click Next.
  3. Choose a file type to store your data, .zip is the most common.
  4. Choose a delivery method, either an emailed download link or add to your preferred cloud storage system.
  5. Click Create archive.

If you wish to delete your Google Plus account prior to the April 2nd shutdown, you can do so on the Delete your Google+ profile page.
